You asked: Changes to the 2010 Acura MDX

2009 MDX2010 MDX

I have recieved several calls asking about the 2010 MDX. We should be expecting to see them in the showroom sometime in December, just in time for Christmas. Many of you have been hearing that there are going to be slight body-style changes.

The 2010 MDX has a softer metallic nose, revised front fascia, and new rear bumper with more chrome moldings. The interior has been upgraded with a thicker steering wheel, new wood trim, and LED lighting. Perhaps the most notable upgrade is Acura’s first-ever six-speed automatic transmission in place of the previous five-speed, making the fuel economy now 16 mpg city and 20 mpg highway. An optional multiview reverse camera with normal, wide-angle, and top-down views is new, and it displays through the eight-inch infotainment screen. The latter view will undoubtedly aid in accurately lining up a trailer with its straight-down look at the rear bumper. The Technology package also gets a new hard-drive-based navigation and entertainment system fortified with voice recognition, real-time traffic updates with rerouting, and weather updates that overlay Doppler-style radar images on the navigation map. An upgraded 10-speaker, 410-watt audio system that combines USB-port connectivity, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a Ford Sync–style function that allows voice control of your music library is included in the Tech pack.

If you have anymore questions about the changes on the 2010 MDX please call your Acura Sales Representative or a Client Care Specialist today.

Here are another couple of pictures of the new 2010 MDX due out at the end of this year

Winter is Around the Corner!

snow tiresI know you didn’t want to be reminded that winter is just around the corner.  But it is prudent to be prepared for it!

Remember, driving pleasure need not stop for winter.  That’s why we suggest the Winter Check from Scholfield Auto Plaza  Service.  With your luxury vehicle, you’ve fulfilled a dream.  It represents power, performance, and driving pleasure.  So it’s our job to keep it that way. In every season, 365 days a year.

The Winter Check from Scholfield Auto Plaza (and Lexus, too) Service will prepare your vehicle properly for the coldest season of the year. During an inspection, we’ll check safety-related and important parts and components, for example the lights, heating, brakes and tires. We’ll also protect your vehicle against weather-related damage such as frost, fit winter wheels and, on request, store your summer wheels for you.  Call or e-Mail us today to get your vehicle inspected.

Do you need new winter tires or perhaps a complete set of winter wheels?  We supply tires produced exclusively for our luxury vehicles.  Only those tires that meet stringent manufacturer standards for driving stability, comfort and reduced fuel consumption are offered at Scholfield Auto Plaza.  We also have the expertise to not damage the air pressure systems that are on virtually all of our luxury vehicles.  Don’t let an 18 year old at the local mega-mart cause a $1000 (a recent example) repair to your vehicle by destroying the tires sensors…

Hot Travel Locations!

0122_hoteldeals_170x170When it comes to 2009’s hottest travel destinations, think cheap–but not chintzy.

To keep visitors coming, top-shelf destinations no longer have top-shelf price tags. This year, four- and five-star hotels are offering unprecedented deals at in-demand spots like Cape Town,Belfast and Vancouver.

In Depth: Hotel Deals In 10 Travel Hot Spots

According to booking site Hotels.com’s quarterly Hotel Price Index, the cost of hotel accommodations decreased by 3% globally in the last three months of 2008. And average daily rates for Jan. 1, 2009, were down significantly in several major U.S. cities, according to another booking site, Travelocity.com. In San Francisco, rates were down 15% from Jan. 1, 2008; in Las Vegas, the rate decrease was 18%.

“For the first time in my career, [high-net-worth travelers] are focused more on the deal than the experience,” says Jack Ezon, president of leisure travel for New York-based agency Ovation Vacations. In other words, travelers are looking for the best prices first and considering the destination second.

Just last week, Ezon sold one week in hotspot Riviera Maya, Mexico for $7,000. The suite booked usually runs $3,000 per night, which means this guest received a nearly 67% discount on his or her holiday.

Sure, the tropical forests, view of the Caribbean Sea and seven restaurants at Riviera Maya are nice, but the best part about staying in a Mandarin Oriental hotel is the highly lauded service and amenities, which include private yoga and Pilates sessions as well as culinary classes that teach local food traditions.

Movie Review – Amelia

amelia_smallposterAfter becoming the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, Amelia was thrust into a new role as America’s sweetheart – the legendary “goddess of light,” known for her bold, larger-than-life charisma. Yet, even with her global fame solidified, her belief in flirting with danger and standing up as her own, outspoken woman never changed. She was an inspiration to people everywhere, from First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to the men closest to her heart: her husband, promoter and publishing magnate George P. Putnam, and her long time friend and lover, pilot Gene Vidal. In the summer of 1937, Amelia set off on her most daunting mission yet: a solo flight around the world that she and George both anxiously foresaw as destined, whatever the outcome, to become one of the most talked-about journeys in history.

Recipe – Creamy Potato Soup!

This recipe was given to us by Kate Kennedy (accounting) and has a reputation for making grown men call their mommies while eating it (it reminds them of Mom for those out there that are metaphorically challenged)….ENJOY!!!potato-soup-11

3 pounds of baking potatoes (9-10 medium sized)

1 Tbls butter

1 ½ cup onions, finely chopped

2 Tbls fresh garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) chicken broth

3 cups milk

1 tsp salt

¼ tsp pepper

Toppings:  shredded cheddar, green onions, bacon

Preheat oven to 400 degrees and bake 1 hour until tender.  (If I’m in a hurry, I cook them in the microwave)…

Let potatoes cool to touch – then peel…

Melt butter in a large stockpot over medium heat and add onions and garlic…

COVER – Simmer – and let the onions sweat – don’t let them brown – just soften…

Add 2/3 of the potatoes and mash in the pot with a masher…

Add chicken broth, milk and salt and pepper…

Raise the heat a little to bring it to a light simmer (almost a boil – but don’t boil)…

Chop remaining potatoes into small cubes, add to soup, and simmer till heated through…

Garnish individual bowls with chopped green onions, cheese and crumbled bacon…

Serves:  4-6
